Meetings & Activities

Troop meetings and non-camping activities are held at the First Christian Church on W. 11th Street in Cedar Falls.

Troop Meetings & Court of Honor Ceremonies

Troop 500 meetings are held on Monday evenings at 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. from August through May. Parent announcements are made each week at 7:45 p.m.

Court of Honor ceremonies are held 2-3 times per year to honor Scouts with merit badges & rank advancements.

Patrol Leaders' Council (PLC)

Patrol Leaders' Council (PLC) consists of Scouts who have been elected and appointed to a leadership position within the troop. This council is responsible for planning and conducting the troop's activities with the direction of the Scoutmaster. PLC meetings are held the first Monday of the month at 6 p.m.

Advancement Mondays

Advancement Mondays are held the first Monday of the month from 7:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m. This time is dedicated for merit badge instruction and review of rank advancement. A Scout should contact an approved counselor and arrange for them to be present to work on a specific badge.

Parent Meetings & Participation

Parent/Committee meetings are held monthly during the Troop meetings. A schedule will be announced. One parent from each Scouting family is strongly encouraged to attend. Campouts will be held on a monthly basis. A schedule of

dates will be provided at the beginning of the year.

The assistance of parents is key to the success of any Boy Scout troop. The more a parent is involved , the more the Scout is likely to stay involved & advance in rank. Parents can get involved with the troop by: Attending parent meetings/troop committee meetings, driving &/or participating in outings, helping with fundraising activities, assisting in planning for activities, serving as an Assistant Scoutmaster, serving on Boards of Review to assist in rank Advancement, and/or being a merit badge counselor. You can choose what you are interested in and together many parents can make the troop successful. If you are working directly with Boy Scouts you will need to complete the online Youth Protection Training.

Parents can assist their sons by attending meetings, reading the Scout’s handbook & actively following their advancement

progress, and read the Troop announcements.
